You must have been horrified!

I feel for you. Some people report that fired Reusche paint can come off with patina...

To be safe (I received this advice from Savant, just passing it on):

Mask off all our painted work with Fasson “Sandblasting resist” or vinyl contact paper for shelving. Cut off near the lead with a box cutter. Burnish it down well to seal the art work, then patina with a cloth and neutralize. Remove the protective material, and there you go!

I can't thank you enough for that info! It's an easy fix. I will give it a try. I'm just getting into painting and have never painted anything before in an artistic manner. I was afraid I would not be able to use the enamels using the foil technique, but this seems like a good solution.

Thanks again,

Kev

This is the second piece I have done so far. There are alot of errors and things I would do differently the next time, but that's how one learns.

Black patina is nitric acid and will dissolve fired on enamels. Copper patina is copper sulphate and will not harm the enamel.

Modern vitreous enamels are formulated to be both alkaline and acid resistant. Alkaline is for dishwasher compatibility. Acid, for acid rain and salad dressing. Nitric acid for patina is potent enough to dissolve the enamel. I've seen it happen.

Thanks Bert for the info. Funny...I actually considered using copper patina but changed my mind....oh well, better I find this out on a trial piece than one that is for someone else.
