The third annual American Glass Guild Conference will be held near Historic Philadelphia, PA from August 1 - 3, 2008. This year’s Conference is well balanced between the Creative Process, Conservation and History of Stained Glass. There will also be seminars on Techniques and Good Business Practices.
Philadelphia is steeped in history and tradition. In 1646, the first church is built in the city. In 1776, the Declaration of Independence is read from the Observatory at the State House Yard. Philadelphia has long been a center of learning and culture. With numerous museums, universities, beautiful churches and great restaurants, Philadelphia is a great location for the 3rd AGG Conference.
The international contingent of presenters includes Nicola Gordon Bowe, Tom Kupper, David Wilde and Geoffrey Wallace. Other notable presenters include: Rowan LeCompte, Gene Mallard, Ellen Miret, Lindsy Parrott, Diane Wright, Bob Jaeger, Lance Kasparian and Judith Schaechter to name a few. There will be sessions discussing Harry Clarke, Lincoln Cathedral, estimating stained glass projects, lime putty mortars, proper structure and support, and the design journeys of many modern artists.
A highlight of last year’s conference, the spirited auction returns with proceeds funding the Jim Whitney Memorial Scholarship Fund and AGG education programs. The conference will be preceded by three workshops. Two days of walking and bus tours including trips to Center City Philadelphia and Bryn Athyn Cathedral will follow the three days of presentations at the Conference Hotel. We will have the first Show of Member’s Work at the 2008 Conference.
You WILL want to be there. Exchange between members is highly encouraged through round table discussions and informal conversations. You will learn as much from your peers as the talented speakers. Visit the website http://www.americanglassguild.org for all the details and registration information, which is downloadable in PDF format. Members get a discount, so join or renew with the AGG while at the website.
